What is EMDR Therapy?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful method of Psychotherapy. To date, EMDR has helped an estimated two million people of all ages relieve many types of psychological distress.
Through EMDR, resolution of traumatic and disturbing adverse life experiences is accomplished through therapy which incorporates dual focus of attention and alternating bilateral visual, auditory and/or tactile stimulation. This process activates the components of the memory that relate to disturbing life events, and facilitates more effective information processing and integration.
Scientific research has established EMDR as effective for post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Approximately 20 controlled studies have investigated the effects of EMDR and have found consistently that EMDR effectively decreases/eliminates the symptoms of PTSD for the majority of clients.
